While teaching has always been my first love, it was not my first job. My first job title was “Cyber Gopher” (true story). Because I was in school majoring in Kinesiology at the time, I gladly took my duties at Open Text, an intranet software company, as an opportunity to learn as much as I could about the business world and technology. However, my heart was preparing for a future in teaching.
I first embarked on a career in Corporate Communications and Marketing. My career allowed me to be involved in all facets of communication, including Marketing, Public and Investor Relations, Internal Communications, and even Adult Education. I worked for local tech companies including Open Text and BlackBerry. At Michelin I was responsible for developing training presentations for approximately 1,000 employees, every month. When Michelin closed, I became the Marketing Manager for a start-up software company. I was eventually laid off while 4-months pregnant, but my positive attitude helped to me to realize that I had just been given an opportunity to pursue my goal of becoming a teacher.
And today, I am an Enrichment Intinerant Resource Teacher for the WRDSB.
